Treasure Bay Casino, Biloxi
Tagline: C'mon in, the  Gang's All  Here!!
While I am not much of a gambler (20.00 every six months or so is my limit-- what?-- I lose every penny and losing money like that makes me furious!) when I did go gambling ,the Treasure Bay was always my choice. I loved the theme, and it was the most unique casino on the coast, a giant 'castle' and 'pirate ship'.  I also remember eating at Lafitte's Buffet on my 21st birthday... and I had a drink in public.
In June, 2005, I was comissioned to paint the Treasure Bay. No hurries, the lady that comissioned it was coming in the spring, she'd pick it up.  Funny enough, my camera was broke, but I could get a picture of the casino  anytime. Then came Katrina.  Do you want your painting before or after?
Hurricane Katrina absolutely oblitorated the Treasure Bay, ripping it from its moorings and spinning it around, finally heaving it on shore away from the 'castle'.  The photos at left (copyright, please do not use without my permission!)  were taken  on an early morning in January,  one of the few times I have been to the beach since the hurricane.  The foggy, grey weather only added to the weird, surrealness of it all, and adds an extra eerie touch.
My husband wanted a close up of the finial ....hmmm...I wonder why?? LOL!  So I had to get a little closer to get it without it being too grainey. I had to take this one in a hurry, though, because a very angry man on an ATV zoomed up and told me to "Get off the beach!!"  There were more people than me there, and there were no signs posted saying otherwise. The remains have now  been destroyed.
Treasure Bay Casino (Before Katrina) 60x36 , acrylic on canvas.
I decided to paint this without the parking lot, as if it were a real Pirate ship and castle. I edited a few things as well,  but I was satisfied with the results.
